College Tennis Update

Florida State Seminoles beat Florida Gators in Sunshine Showdown The #36 ranked men’s tennis team in the country, the Florida State Seminoles, defeated the #15 Florida Gators last night in the so called “Sunshine Showdown” at the USTA National Campus  in Orlando, Florida. The match, which was considered one of the most anticipated matches of the entire college season, certainly did not disappoint in terms of suspense. In front of a regular season record crowd of almost 2000 people, this rivalry match went down all the way to the wire. In the end, Florida State came out on top 4-2, with Freshman Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar and Junior Jose Gracia turning a 2-2 tie into a win for the Noles. The rivalry between Florida State and the University of Florida has been one of the greatest in NCAA sports and this is just another thrilling chapter to be added to it. No matter what team you were rooting for, everybody in attendance would probably have to agree that the winner of this epic match was neither the Seminoles or the Gators, it was college tennis! Once again, this has shown how the popularity of college tennis keeps growing and so does the level of play, the attendances and the intensity. The match took place at the brand-new USTA National Tennis Campus in Orlando. This facility is considered to be the largest tennis facility in the world, with 100 courts and 6 different surfaces. It will be used for more college matches throughout the semester, including the American Athletic Conference and the A10 Championships in April. We will continue to keep you guys updated on how the tennis season unfolds, but one thing is already certain…great things are happening in college tennis at the moment and even greater things lay ahead!
