Give us 5 words that best describe you as an athlete:
Determined, resilient, hard working, confident, proud.
Tell us about your best memory of your athletic career:
My favourite memory from my athletic career is from February 2024. After multiple knee and leg reconstruction surgeries, I was removed from the team list for our swim camp in Spain. Although I understood it was the right decision for my recovery, I felt frustrated and left behind. Instead of letting that disappointment stop me, I committed myself fully to training after surgery, even though I had lost fitness, strength, and confidence. While the rest of the team was away at camp, I travelled with one of my coaches to a small local competition. It wasn’t a big meet, but it meant everything to me. At that meet, I dropped two seconds off my personal best from before my surgery. I was shocked but, more importantly, I felt like myself again. That race showed me that setbacks don’t define you; how you respond to them does. Even after being knocked down, I proved to myself and others that I could come back stronger. That moment reminded me why I love this sport. It showed my resilience, my determination, and my belief that with hard work, patience, and grit, anything is possible.
Goals:
To progress as much as I can in and out of swimming. I want to be successful and do well in whatever career I do. I want to continue to enjoy swimming and keep myself motivated.
Anything else we should know?
I have faced significant physical challenges throughout my swimming career. I have had four surgeries on my knee to correct patella instability. This has created unavoidable setbacks and gaps in my training and racing, and at times they have affected my confidence and strength.
However, I have never stopped working toward my goals. I have stayed committed to my rehabilitation, remained positive, and trusted the process even when progress felt slow. I recently completed my biggest surgery yet — and hopefully my last — and I am now healthy, strong, and fully focused on competing at the highest level again.
Through consistency, discipline, and the support of my coaches, I returned after my 3rd surgery to race at the British Championships. That experience confirmed that I am not defined by injury. I am more motivated than ever to keep improving and to contribute fully to a collegiate team environment.
