Interview

Give us 5 words that best describe you as an athlete:

confident, fit, enthusiastic, lanky, chirpy

Tell us about your best memory of your athletic career:

I was playing the U13 qualifiers at Brookhurstpruit Golf Club with my dad on the bag to qualify for the U14 World Championships at Pinehurst, where all the golfers were playing for just one spot. Going down the last hole I was tied for the lead. The hole was 300m long and all the way uphill. My opponent had hit a cracker tee shot just the right of the green, but had short-sided himself quite badly, so that all I needed to do was get the ball in play. I hit it about 40m short of the green and when I took my lob wedge out and started my preshot routine my dad decided to put even more pressure on me and said, “you do realize you need to make a birdie here to win and go to America?” This then made me even more motivated so I hit a little floater up and down to about six feet. My opponent also hit an amazing flop shot from where he was to about 12 feet. He proceeded to make the putt, again putting the pressure on me, but I holed my putt as well. We then went into a playoff which I ended up winning, qualifying to go to America for the first time. I also had such a great experience there, not playing my best golf, but still managing to finish in the top 30. This experience was something that could never be taken away from me and I learned a lot about myself during that time!

Goals:

I have several goals. Short term I would like to win multiple junior and amateur events and be ranked in the top 10 in  the national rankings. I would also like to be a part of the South African national team squad. After that I would like to be a crucial part of my college golf team, complete my degree, and win events both individually and as a team!

Anything else we should know?

I am a confident, independent person with a mature outlook on life and the ability to set goals for myself and achieve them successfully. I find school work fairly easy and have the ability to focus and concentrate with ease, in order to achieve the grades I do.
